I started out with these relatively quick and carefree drawings of a reindeer and a robin. working really just with a sense of warm and cooler areas with the colour use. using levels on photoshop, after scanning them in and fiddling with the hue and saturation of these images allowed me to create the more vibrant finished images below.
I like the design of this one rather well, but it is true that its hard to distinguish the writing, and the deer cannot be appreciated so much.
